31 Horror Movies in 31 Days #19

Friends,

I’ve made the very foolish decision to watch 31 horror movies (all of which I’ve yet to see or haven’t seen in many years) throughout this month of October. Each movie I watch will be reviewed, right here. I’m going to lose my mind. Here we go!

I sat through LADY FRANKENSTEIN image(1971)

This wasn’t so bad. Pretty demented stuff. Mad scientist tries to create life- makes a monster- is killed by monster- and then his daughter continues his experiments-but for sexy reasons.

The first monster escapes and murders some fisherman and naked ladies. The Captain trying to solve all the murders is played by Mariska Hargitay’s father-

I give it 2 1/2 Mollys!

Ok, until next time.

31 Horror Movies in 31 Days #18

Friends,

I watched BAY OF BLOOD image(1971)

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I’m going to make this fast because I think someone’s in my apartment, trying to spook me.

Anyway, this movie had a lot of turtlenecks-

I half expected Carl Sagan image

or Ernest Hemingwayimage to make a cameo. Papa was still alive then, wasn’t he?

Great ending, fairly confusing.

3 Mollys!!!

Obviously, I didn’t make it to 31 in just 31 days. But I’m not going to stop until I reach 31! More to come.

31 Horror Movies in 31 Days #16 & 17

Friends,

I’ve made the very foolish decision to watch 31 horror movies (all of which I’ve yet to see or haven’t seen in many years) throughout this month of October. Each movie I watch will be reviewed, right here. I’m going to lose my mind. Here we go!

I succumbed to the franchise. I watched PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2 & 3-

image image

Very quickly- I watched these two in the same night. #2 was better than #3. You’re familiar with the conceit- found footage, shaky cameras, grainy footage. It’s tough to pull off this popular gimmick without it being distracting. And it is distracting. I got a little bored and started thinking about things like-

It’s a little hard to believe that the teen daughter in #2 is a member of the Misfits fiend club-

image

The pool in #2 is very clean. This shot appears more than 20 times-

image

And too many ghosts in #3! It got confusing and I couldn’t keep track!-

That’s all.

2 1/2 Mollys total. That’s fair.

More movies soooooooon!

31 Horror Movies in 31 Days #15

Friends,

I’ve made the very foolish decision to watch 31 horror movies (all of which I’ve yet to see or haven’t seen in many years) throughout this month of October. Each movie I watch will be reviewed, right here. I’m going to lose my mind. Here we go!

I went on a terror ride! I watched-

HORROR EXPRESS image(1972)

This Spanish horror film teams Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee against a brain draining creature on a fast moving train!

Christopher Lee unearths an ancient evil (that trope again) that begins to kill people by draining their brains with its eyes. The evil can transfer from one body to another, so it’s tough to kill. When the evil is inside you, you look like this-

or this-

image

This ancient evil drains the memory and intellect of its victims, leaving them husks of their former selves. With big bleeding white eyeballs. Like this-

image

Most of the movie takes place on a speeding train headed through Siberia. Why is the train moving so fast? Because it’s Russian! Oh, you’ve heard that one before? You’ve probably heard the one about Trotsky, Stalin, a camel, an Englishman, Joan Didion, a hermit crab, H.G. Wells, Lenin, Lincoln, Doctor Strange and the 1971 Broadway cast of Jesus Christ Superstar at a tractor pull too, huh?

Anyway, I liked this one too! I am on a serious winning streak. When it breaks, I have a felling it’s going to be bad. Very bad.

31 Horror Movies in 31 Days #14

Friends,

I’ve made the very foolish decision to watch 31 horror movies (all of which I’ve yet to see or haven’t seen in many years) throughout this month of October. Each movie I watch will be reviewed, right here. I’m going to lose my mind. Here we go!

Is this the first British horror film on my list? I can’t remember. Let’s say it is! It’s called-

THE BLOOD ON SATAN’S CLAW image(1971)

Local peasant unearths ancient evil while plowing field- townspeople become satan’s servants, grow weird hairy patches, wear funny wigs. It moves a little slow at times (especially at the end, but that was deliberate and I loved it) but I didn’t mind at all. There were enough wigs to look at. And this lady too-

image

Oh, the peasant farmer knew he had unearthed evil because it looked like a drawing of evil from a book about evil-

                                              (drunk on evil)

I’m going to try and find more like this one. I LIKED IT. 3 1/2 Mollys!
